ChatGPT Faces Global Outage, Services Restored; OpenAI Yet to Issue Statement

Users Worldwide Report Access Issues, Downdetector Confirms Spike in Complaints

If you tried to use ChatGPT earlier today and couldn’t get a response, you weren’t alone. The AI chatbot from OpenAI faced a temporary global outage, leaving thousands of users unable to access the service.

According to Downdetector, which monitors service disruptions, complaints surged around 12:44 PM IST, with over 500 reports in India alone. Similar reports came in from several other countries, confirming the scale of the issue.

Website Hit Hardest, Mobile Users Also Affected

While the outage primarily impacted the web version of ChatGPT, many users on the mobile app also reported difficulties logging in or fetching responses.

The good news is that the service has now been restored, and users can once again access the chatbot. However, OpenAI has not yet provided an official reason for the downtime.

Not the First Outage in Recent Months

This isn’t the first time ChatGPT users have faced disruptions. In July 2025, the service experienced two major outages, affecting both casual users and professionals who rely on the tool for work.

These recurring outages highlight how deeply integrated AI tools have become in daily tasks and how disruptive even a short service break can be.

Current Status

At present, ChatGPT appears to be fully functional again across platforms. Users who were unable to access the service earlier today should now be able to log in and continue their work without interruptions.
